From December 22nd of 1933 to February 14th of 1934, the Mad Gasser plagued the citizens of Botetourt County. The official explanation is that mass hysteria caused the town to collectively imagine him. Why then, were family pets also affected by his gas? Why were some people hospitalized for weeks? What really happened that could leave an entire county terrified for over 85 years?
